Innovative Prototyping:

Diverse Technologies in product development

Prototypes play a key role in the innovation and creativity process, turning ideas into something real. They allow us to visualize projects and perform the necessary tests for their development. There are three main types of prototypes, each with its own purpose. With its own purpose.

1. Appearance prototypes:

These prototypes, also known as "Dummies," focus exclusively on the physical appearance of the product.

physical appearance of the product. They are ideal for the design approval phase and for showing the dimensions, size, and aesthetics of the final item to the public. They are commonly found at exhibitions and demonstrations.

2. Functional Prototypes:

Unlike appearance prototypes, functional prototypes do not always reflect the final aesthetic of the product.

Their main focus is to test the functionality or functionalities that the final product should have. They may incorporate one or several functional features envisioned in the final product, although consideration of appearance is not excluded.

Example: In this photo we can see a functional prototype designed to test the product's displacement and flexibility, a crucial part of its functionality. Although it does not represent the final design, it fulfills its testing purpose.

Here’s another example of a functional prototype where the appearance was crucial for the manufacturing of the prototype.

This example is often used in the automotive industry, as these lenses are required for design and optical testing.

3. Pre-series prototypes:

Pre-series prototypes are the closest to the final product. They share materials, characteristics, and processes that will be used in the final production, either on a large scale or in a limited production.
